Beans with GPS?
Is there anyone out there from the Southern Hemisphere? Anyone who grows runner beans?

I'm just asking because all my runner beans are twining clockwise up their poles. Do they do it in the same way in the Southern Hemisphere, or is it the same all over the world?

Actually, I'd be interested to hear from anyone with runner beans. Or tomatoes. Or peas. Or beetroot... Yes, my life is that sad. Term is winding down, my OU course is over - now I'm obsessing over the garden. I may need therapy.

Actually, I am feeling weird (as icon). I've had a horrific headache all weekend, all my joints ache and I'm queasy. Some generous child has given me another bug.

I can ask my mum - I would check, but I don't know where/if she has planted the damn things. As for the beetroot, what would you like to know? We have some in the garden atm. :D

It's not urgent - I'm just curious. We even wrapped one of the beans round the pole anti-clockwise, and by the morning it had corrected itself. Interesting.

Beetroot. Never done them before. Our carrot crop last year was pitiful (two inches long, v v thin, times 5). These are sprouting better, so more success immediately! What I'm not sure about is thinning out. I'm kind of imagining the width of a beetroot and giving them that amount of room. What do you think? (Love cooked beetroot, BTW.)

Bean are easy! And peas. And they're much nicer home-grown than bought. I have no idea what shops to do them to take the taste out. :S

Is your weather weird too? Ours is hot one day, really cool the next, grey and wet the next. I don't know how to dress! We had to get an electric heater out for one examiner in the music exams - the previous day had been sweltering, so she dressed in cool clothes, only to shiver all day. I wouldn't be at all surprised if it was the weather to blame for how I feel. Plus stress and tiredness. I've been sleeping for an extra couple of hours in the afternoons in the last few days. Roll on the holidays!

I'm getting back into the garden now I've got time. It's lovely. I get a lot of help and supervision from the cats too. Not up to doing anything on my own, apparently.

Hm, interesting question... I hope you find some person to answer it!

I just got in from watering the garden. All those flowers look really lovely, but they need so much water. ARGH!

Well, I thought since there are folks here from everywhere, my curiosity might be satisfied. We did try winding the beans round the wrong way, but they corrected themselves. Now, a class of Year 4 children don't know which way is clockwise...

It's been really dry here too. We installed two water butts earlier this season, but we still have to hose everything. Wouldn't be surprised if there;s a hosepipe ban soon. Good excuse for not cleaning the car, if nothing else.
