Crochet
Here are a few things that I've made recently.

A lovely warm slouchy hat. Instead of a bobble, it's got a flower on the crown.

A pretty little bag. The ribbon through the strap stops the strap stretching, and also it can be adjusted to change the length of the strap.

And an owl hat. I saw someone with a bear hat on and wanted to make something similar, but the corners were a bit pointy for a bear, so it turned into an owl. Cute!

A bit later on, I'm going to put them on my Folksy shop. In the meantime, I have to find a place for this to live...

I ordered a quantity of toy stuffing from Amazon and didn't quite understand how big 4kg would be. I was thinking in terms of bags of sugar. *hides* My husband is most amused.

The flower looks great on the hat, a lovely alternative to a bobble, but what I REALLY love is the owl hat - what a great idea!

Lol at the stuffing - it does take up a lot of room. You could always fill a few cushion covers until you need it!

Thank you! Isn't that owl silly?

The stuffing is stuffed under my desk now. The only place in the house we don't fall over it all the time. More elephants to come!

I love the hats!

And your stuffing story. ;D

Thank you! I'm starting to work my way through all that stuffing...

Cool. It's a cute idea to have the ribbon in the strap of the bag, too.

Thank you! It really bugs me that crocheted straps stretch. Often I'll sew webbing along it, but this makes the strap adjustable too! I'll use that idea again.

that bag almost makes me want to learn how to crochet more. (do you have a pattern?)
alligator138: Poppy seedheadalligator138 on February 27th, 2012 12:28 pm (UTC)
Thank you! (Only almost? *lol*)

I don't have a pattern. All I did was make two rectangles in a 4:3 proportion, in a shell stitch with single crochet (US) at the top and bottom, then I crocheted them together and did another round or two to edge the bag. It's lined, and closes with a press stud. That's one of the things I love about crochet - I find it so much easier to design with than knitting.

maybe I'll ask my mom to make me one. I have the opposite problem, I love designing things with knitting, but I don't feel comfortable with crocheting yet. I have really only done single crochet to border knitted things. There is so much more to do and learn with knitting before i move on to new crochet stuff, if you know what I mean.

I adore the owl hat! I think it turned out very well :)

Thank you! Not a bad result for a rapid change of plan when I found the corners were too pointy for a bear... :-)

You're most welcome :)

I love the all of these but especially the slouch hat. You wouldn't happen to have a pattern for that would you please?
alligator138: Guitar rosettealligator138 on February 27th, 2012 12:31 pm (UTC)
Thank you!

I don't have a pattern as such. I just did a rectangle of ripple stitch, joined it at the end, then joined the top along the zigzags. Yes, there are odd extra details, like working through the back of stitches, but that's the basic outline. Just measure your head and make a panel that length.

LMAO about the stuffing! XD sugar is way more dense than stuffing lolol
And that's a clever trick with the ribbon :)
They all look great! :D

I knooooow! *hides* I'm a musician - I don't do... things like that! My husband is a scientist. He despairs. However, the stuffing bag fits perfectly under my desk. Almost as if it was intended...

But even though I'm crap at density and stuff like that, I can figure out tricks like with the ribbon. Haha! Not completely useless! :-) I'm glad you like them.

I love your stuff! The slouchy hat with the flower is great, the owl hat is a hoot! What a great idea to put ribbon through the bag handle to stop it stretching.
Your stuffing story reminded me of when I ordered a roll of bubble wrap online when I was about to move from the UK to the US. Anyway this huge roll about 5 feet tall and 3 feet across arrived by courier! It barely fit through the front door and I ended up having to store it in my father's garage, where most of it still remains to this day!
alligator138: Guitaralligator138 on February 27th, 2012 12:36 pm (UTC)
Thank you very much! I hate stretchy straps - the bag ends up round your ankles. And this way, it's adjustable!

I'm so glad it's not just me that does stuff like that. How are we supposed to know? It'll all be used, anyway. Eventually... ;-)

stuffing...time to shell out amagarumi's like they are going out of style. Make a bunch of different animals with different yarns or make a giant collection of amagarumi octopii and string them together to form a stuffed garland of cute. Or like the other commenter said its cushion time!
alligator138: Ryan - Ooooh!alligator138 on February 27th, 2012 12:38 pm (UTC)
I love that idea of an octopus garland! That goes on my list! I'm loving this elephant pattern that I've got right now, so that might account for some of the stuffing. I've also got a book called Teeny Tiny Crochet, full of little lovely stuffed things. That stuffing won't go to waste!
